Krystal Shannan Spotlights - Cerise Deland

More Than You Know
Cerise Deland

When a va-va-voom redhead walks into Luke Hurley’s bar, he vows to get to know her. But she escapes him every time, her family besieging her. Luke wants to save her. Hell, he wants to savor her if he can only figure out how to intrigue her…and nail her. Luke has his hands full of the classiest, funniest female he’s ever met for one naughty night. But will she love him tomorrow?

Book Information:
Genre – Erotic Romance
Series – 1Night Stand
Length – 11k

Excerpt:
“Hi, Luke Hurley.” His redhead stood right in front of him, beaming at him so the world glowed suddenly more brightly in this dark crowded room.
“Hi, there,” he said to her, as she inched closer to the bar. “I’m so glad you came in.”
“Thish has got to be Rita. Right?” Teresa took a slow gander at the woman he had told her kept him awake at night.
“Rita?” asked the lady in question, looking humored. “I’m—“
“Rita Hayworth. You bet!” Teresa clamped a hand on his lady’s arm and peered at her like an X-ray machine. “Luke, you pegged her. That is who she looks like. Gee. Lucky you, huh?”
Rita questioned him with a sideways grin. “Luke, I—”
“Teresa is my friend,” he explained, trying to keep Rita here until he got her phone number and her real name.
“I’m his copyeditor!” Teresa put in. “His friend.”
“Yes, Teresa, and the lady would like to have her arm back.”
“Oh, don’t chu worry yourself none, Luke and Rita. I am leaving. I am!”
He turned back to his redhead. “I’m glad you came in tonight. I’ve been trying to find out your name. Went to the catering manager and asked about the wedding here tomorrow, but she says the mother of the groom is a platinum blonde and short.”
“She is,” Rita exclaimed, little chuckles escaping her.
Someone shouted out that he had to stop holding hands with the bombshell and take his order. Where was his assistant bartender? He looked around but tugged at Rita’s hand.
“Okay, okay!” Luke told him, but zeroed in on Rita. “I want to call you. Ask you to dinner or drinks. Coffee, anything. I need your phone number.”
“Really? Oh, Luke, please let me—”
“I’ll find a pencil and pad. And by the way, that gown is unbelievable.” He had to tame his voice so he could speak about the gold-sequined mermaid thing that made his cock twitch. “I think I just went blind. Don’t move.”
He strode toward the register, found what he needed and stepped toward her.
But her son and Blondie appeared beside her. Blondie was pouting. The son raked his hair.
“I’m sorry. Tamara,” Rita bit off the words, never looking at her future daughter-in-law as she took Luke’s pen and wrote on his paper. “But I am the one who brought up Josh. And I will sit in the first pew. If you or your parents don’t like it, too bad. And Josh, if your father or his new wife don’t like it, tough.”
Luke watched the family drama, realizing why he hadn’t been able to learn Rita’s name. She was the divorced wife of Mr. Silver-haired Banker. And judging from the close ages of stepmother and son, Rita might actually be wife numero dos.
The son cursed. “Tam, I want her to sit in the front pew. This is my mother, and she deserves to take precedence.”
Ouch. Luke couldn’t help but look at Rita, who locked her gaze on his and grinned.
Blondie stomped her foot. “I won’t do this to my daddy. He wants this to look good for his friends. You know how he is about marriages made in heaven and no divorce.”
“Well, Tam, next to golf, divorce is my father’s favorite pastime,” Josh retorted, as Blondie huffed and made a beeline toward the door. “Aw, hell. Mom, what can I do here?”
Before Rita could answer, he fled. To Luke’s dismay, Rita raised her hands in frustration, threw him an apologetic look and followed her son.
Luke pounded his fist on the bar and the pad of paper jumped with the blow. Numbers and words bounced around. He grabbed the sheet.
Room 428. Rita
“Ricardo!” Luke called out to his assistant, as he ripped off his bar apron. “Take over here.”

Krystal Shannan Interviews - Louisa Bacio - A Date with Death

Please help me welcome Louisa Bacio to the blog today!

Tell us a little about yourself.

My background is pretty diverse, but mostly involves writing. I used to interview bands and review concerts for magazines and online. Then I “settled down” and became a mom. I teach college, freelance edit and write. I’m also involved with my local RWA chapter, Orange County.

Did you always want to be an author?

Always. I started writing poetry at 7 years old, joined yearbook in 7th grade, and never looked back.

What is your favorite part of being a writer/author?

That creative process. There’s a pure joy when the writing is flowing and going well. As an author, I love being able to share my worlds with readers. I’ve been a lifelong reader so to know that I’m touching others is remarkable.

Tell us a little about your novella.

A Date with Death shows the power of love, and how it can transcend death. It’s part of Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand series, which all feature a magical one-night stand. But you know, if the night goes really well, who would want it to end?

Blurb:
Death sucks. It’s boring, and there’s no chance of getting laid. Stuck in the waiting room of Heaven, Maise fantasizes about all the pleasures of the flesh she didn’t get to experience. When Maise discovers a business card for the dating service, 1Night Stand, she wonders if there’s still a chance.

Reece normally wouldn’t consider being set up, but after his brother buys him a certificate, he feels obligated. A romantic night on the Southern California coast, with the full-of-life Maise leaves him wanting more.

Will a 1Night Stand be enough to overcome death?

When did you start writing and when did you finish your first book?

This particular story I wrote last October – a year ago – when I saw Decadent’s book trailer for their paranormal 1Night Stands. It definitely hooked me, and I wanted to be involved in their line.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Sometimes it’s the oddest places. I hear a part of a conversation, or catch a glimpse of someone, and the idea comes to me. Or, I love the Calls for Submissions that publishers put out. They can totally inspire me to come up with a new idea. I dream about them.

Do you plot and outline or do you just write?  Plotter or Pantser?

About 85% pantser, with a tiny dabbling of a plotter. I have an “about” idea of where the story is going, and what scenes need to be included.

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting your first book published?

I met with Lori Perkins, who was then editorial director for Ravenous Romance. She asked if I had a book in the works, and sold it on proposal. My first book, Sex University: Physical Education is a light BDSM, erotic thriller and published in June 2010.

What book have you most recently released?

Over the past month, I’ve released a few short stories. Most recently were Reanimated Love, a dark, zombie erotic, and A Date with Death, a light paranormal erotic romance. Such a contrast between the two tales.

What was your favorite part of the book?

Two scenes stand out in A Date with Death – the feeding of each other tapas, so sexy, and the scene in the bathtub. Who doesn’t like a soothing, relaxing soak with a naked hunk?

Rate your story in terms steaminess?

Smokin’ hawt! Seriously, people meet me and go, “And she writes that?” I’m the total quiet, shy, studious type with the dark side.

LOL! It's always the quiet ones :-)

Do you have another book in the works?

Within the next month, the fourth book in my The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf erotic paranormal series should be released. It’s subtitled The Wolfe Pack. I’m also working on a follow-up book to A Date with Death titled A Dance with Death.

What advice would you give new authors?  What have you learned about the business?

Writing these days can definitely be looked at as a business. So many authors are introverts. Writing is an isolated career path. I suggest joining writing groups, and finding critique partners you can relate with, but try not to let social media become too much of a distraction. It can be tough.

Boxers or Briefs? Boxer briefs – they are super sexy.
Pizza or hamburger? Pizza with pepperoni and olives – no cheese
Beer, Wine, or mixed drink? Wine or vodka

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be?  Would you write or read there, or do something else?

Florence, Italy and if it’s a total fantasy, I wouldn’t have to worry about the long air flight. I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t be writing, or reading, I’d be soaking up the atmosphere, drinking lots of wine and hopefully spending plenty of time with my hubby between the sheets.

(Character Questions)

What were your first impressions of each other?

Maise: Reece carries such a physical presense: tall and broad shouldered. At the same time, though, there was this underlying sadness that made me want to comfort him.

Reece: Gorgeous breasts spilling out of this white and black polka-dotted number. I’m sorry, but they were right there. I couldn’t take my eyes off them.

What’s your favorite characteristic of each other?

Reece: You’re talking like personality, right? Ouch! *rubs shoulder* What was that for?

Maise: Stop giving her such a hard time. He tries to be tough, but underneath, he’s a real softie.

Reece: And my doll her possesses a gift of forgiveness. She gave me a wonderful present that I can’t divulge.

What are your plans for the near future?

Reece: Think we’re going to head back to the resort, and see if I can convince Maise to squeeze back into that tutu nightie. If you’ll excuse us.

Maise: He’s incorrigible, but in a good way. *laughs*
